Healthcare

Description

Ensuring access to quality healthcare has been a core priority for the Tibetan community in exile. The Department of Health, CTA, operates an extensive network of hospitals, primary health centers, and clinics across Tibetan settlements in India and Nepal to meet the medical needs of the community.
Currently, the Department runs 7 hospitals, 4 primary health centers and 33 clinics., providing comprehensive health services to populations ranging from 5,000 to 16,000 residents. These facilities, often staffed with resident or visiting doctors, extend preventive, promotive, and curative care to smaller communities.
Beyond daily healthcare delivery, the Department oversees several key initiatives, including the Tibetan Medicare System (TMS),

Mother and Child Health (MCH) Programs, HIV/AIDS prevention, mental health support, TB control programs, and assistance for destitute and differently-abled individuals.
The Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD) plays an essential role in supporting the Department’s mission. Through strategic partnerships, targeted funding, and project management support, SARD helps strengthen the healthcare infrastructure and enhance service delivery across settlements. The following programs highlight our specific initiatives that promote the health and well-being of the Tibetan refugee community.
