Education

Description

Education has always been central to the Tibetan community in exile. The primary goal behind establishing separate Tibetan schools in India and Nepal was to provide quality modern education while simultaneously preserving the Tibetan language and culture—a mission known as the “twin-object” of Tibetan schools. Over the past six decades, this vision has been remarkably successful, laying a strong foundation for future generations.
Today, the Department of Education (DoE) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) oversees 63 Tibetan schools under various autonomous school bodies such as Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV),

Tibetan Homes Foundation(THF), Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society(STS), and the Snow Lion Foundation. These institutions serve over 15,000 students with the support of more than 2,000 staff members.
SARD supports the Tibetan education ecosystem by securing and managing international donor resources to improve infrastructure, education quality, and student opportunities. It also leads Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) efforts to ensure programs are evidence-based, impactful, and continuously refined through data- driven decision-making and accountability.
