Librarian Cluster Meeting of North Zone Successfully Concludes

Dharamshala: The Department of Education, CTA successfully organised the 2-day Librarian Cluster Meeting – North Zone at Sherab Gatsel Lobling, Dharamshala on 17 and 18 July 2019.

The meeting cum workshop was attended by 4 librarians from THF Schools, 8 from TCV Schools, 9 from STSS Schools and 1 from CST Shimla. The resource person for the Cluster Meeting was Ms. Sujata Norhona from Bookworm, Goa.

Karma Singey, Secretary of DOE was the chief guest at the opening program of cluster meeting. He was accompanied by Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Academic Section of DOE. Ms Sujata and Ms Sonam Gangsang, EGR Coordinator of DOE were also present at the opening program.

Mr. Tenzin Dorjee welcomed the resource person and the participants of the cluster meeting. “Librarians as the educators should follow a life-long learning career. Hence, it is important to continuously take part in various professional development activities to upgrade and update yourself according to the need of time and space”, he said in the welcome remarks.

Secretary Karma Singey said that the main aim of Education Department is to improve the overall education standard of Tibetan children and to improve the reading skills of children, more so from the early age, is an important part of improving the standard of education.

“The school librarians have a huge responsibility of improving the reading culture, reading skills and book collection of the school library”, he said. Lamenting the poor reading culture among the Tibetan society, he advised that it is important to gift books to the children on their birthdays and other important occasions so that reading culture can be developed at a very early age.

During the 2-day meeting cum workshop, the school librarians shared their library activities and held discussions with other librarians. The resource person introduced a number of library games and literature circle activities to enhance their professional development.

At the closing program, as a gesture of gratitude, Mr. Tenzin Dorjee offered the scarf to resource person Ms. Sujata Norhono and the participants. The resource person felicitated the participants with certificates and books for the library.

The 2-day Librarian Cluster Meeting of North Zone was funded by USAID and coordinated by Ms Sonam Gangsang, EGR Coordinator of DOE.
